The lofty archer from the skies;
His hubris was his own demise
Cupid's honor he offended;
Apollo's heart would soon be rended
Thanks to Cupid's arrow's aim
Apollo's heart was set aflame
For a maiden of the earth
Bound a virgin from her birth
He lusted for her; he gave chase
Through the forest they did race
Yet to his will she would not yield;
She asked her father for a divine shield
The one who once was so carefree
Began to turn into a tree
And when the transformation was complete
Apollo knew it was his defeat
He learned a lesson as he cried;
He learned he must control his pride.
